Knowledgebase How does it work?
A circuit board basically does one thing. It opens and closes switches so the operator doesn't have to do it manually. Most circuit boards are controlled by a software program which resides in an IC on the board or in the Top Side control. The temperature control circuit on most boards is elaborate. It uses inputs from the temp sensor, high limit sensor, and pressure switch. Through a series of comparisons and timings with pump motors, it determines when to activate the heater relay. Add all of that along with managing filter cycles, countdown timers, and freeze circuits.
Why do circuit boards fail?
All spa circuit boards contain relays to turn on pumps, turn on the heater, and control other devices within the spa. A relay is an electro-mechanical part containing a coil and contacts. Over time these contacts wear out, stick, overheat, or just fail to operate. We suggest heater relays should be changed as part of Prevention
How do we rebuild them?
The relays can be replaced, however they are soldered in place. The job requires the correct tools, soldering skills, and proper test equipment. After the old relays have been replaced and the connectors cleaned and tightened, the board can continue to function as new. Other problems occurring on Spa circuit boards include blown fuses, leaking capacitors, loose connections, bad driver IC's, and intermittent solder joints.
